The College of Law nurtures and motivates students to engage in critical thinking and immerse themselves in a cerebral environment where they can freely express their views on the fundamental legal issues confronting our world today in a mutually supportive environment, thus preparing them for the practice of a successful legal career and as responsible citizens. Our aim is to provide the necessary attitudes, skills, character traits, quality of minds required of law students to perform effectively as lawyers and defenders of law in the light of truth.

At the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA College of Law, every student can find a niche and an opportunity for intellectual explorations. The academic experience, though demanding, will be enjoyable and will prepare our graduates to practice in any field of law. Our vibrant student organizations enrich our students’ social and professional networks. Classes are held in the evenings during the work week and a full schedule on Saturdays for the convenience of our working students.

• History of the College of Law

  The College of Law was inaugurated by the University of Perpetual Help System-DALTA, Las Piñas then called the Perpetual Help College of Rizal in June 1994. Its first Dean was Justice Edgardo L. Paras. The pioneer professors were Justice Ricardo Galvez, Justice Maria Losa, Judge Edilberto Sandoval, Atty. Jack Jiminez, Atty. Eugene Paras and Rev. Pastor Bing Oyos.
  
  By the second semester of the year 1994, Justice Isagani Cruz became its second dean until March 2009. Atty. Joe-Santos B. Bisquera became the third dean from 2009 to 2011 and currently, the fourth dean in the person of Justice Minita V. Chico-Nazario.
  
  In 1997, Perpetual College of Rizal was granted its university status paving its way to greater achievements in the College of Law.
  
  In 2000, the UPHR College of Law was declared the third best school, out of the 10 Best Law Schools in the Bar. According to an article written by former Chief Justice Panganiban, the school is one of the top performing schools in the Philippines for the last five years.
  
  By the year 2005, it produced a 6th placer in the bar exams in the person of Gladys V. Gervacio earning a perfect 100% in two bar subjects – Legal Ethics and Labor Law.
  
  In June 2009, Dean - Atty. Joe-Santos B. Bisquera took the reigns from Justice Cruz and saw an increase of student population and faculty. From June 2011 up to the present, Dean - Justice Minita V. Chico-Nazario sat at the helm of the College of Law to steer the college towards the attainment of their vision, mission, and philosophies.
  
  Dean Justice Minita V. Chico-Nazario’s remarkable achievements:

  First woman Justice in the Sandiganbayan, its first woman chair of a Division therein and then first woman Presiding Justice

  First Presiding Justice of the Sandiganbayan to be elevated to the Supreme Court

  Former President of the Philippine Women Judges Association for 5 years

  Appointed to the Supreme Court on February 10, 2004

  In 2002 ,The Most Outstanding Kapampangan in the Field of Law

  Chairman of the Special Division Constituted by the Honorable Supreme Court to try the Estrada Plunder Case per its Resolution Promulgated January 21, 2002

  Criminal Law Bar Examiner for the year 2000

  The school aims to be at par with the top Manila law schools. It seeks to foster excellence in legal education by promoting scholarly academic pursuits among its faculty and providing students with the legal knowledge and competence preparing them to become productive and successful lawyers of sound moral values. It is further committed to enhance higher legal education through its exemplary academic program, and to contribute to the improvement of the law through other forms of public service.

  To inculcate in its students a proper appreciation and understanding of law as an instrument for the highest interests of the nation. The college also strives to prepare its students for the practice of law as a career with full fidelity to the lofty standards of the legal profession and the demands of responsible citizenship. It is the aim of the College of Law to provide legal education and instill the Perpetual Creed that “Character building is Nation building” to future members of the legal profession.

• Objectives

  The primary objective of the College of Law of the University of Perpetual Help System-DALTA is to inculcate in its students a proper appreciation and understanding of law as an instrument for the promotion of the highest interests of the nation. The college also strives to prepare its students for the practice of law as a career with full fidelity to the lofty standards of the legal profession and the demands of responsible citizenship. Its specific goal is to inspire students to pursue justice as an ideal of a free society, particularly the underprivileged, and the promotion of human rights as the special mission of the lawyer. Passing the bar examinations is also an objective, but only as a means for the attainment of the above-stated higher purpose.

• Methods of Instruction

  Instruction is by recitation and case study methods. The students are given periodic assignments based on the prescribed textbooks and other readings including but not limited to significant cases. Occasionally, lectures are delivered by the professors to explain intricate laws or cases and to report recent jurisprudence or legislation. The assignments and lectures become the subject of the question-and-answer discussion by which the students are tested orally during each meeting and in the periodic written examinations.

We have a rigorous academic curriculum of Bachelor of Laws (Ll.B.) under the tutelage of an impressive battery of law professors who are leading figures in the wide range of legal experience: former Associate Justices of the Supreme Court, former and incumbent Justices of the Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan, former and incumbent Judges, high government officials, BAR topnotchers, BAR examiners, BAR reviewers, eminent authors of law books, notable and respected lawyers in prestigious law firms -- all to guarantee excellent legal education. Our LL.B. program is designed to engage students in the intricacies and flavors of the Philippine legal system, and help them prepare for the challenges of work in an increasingly global legal community.
